Safeguaring at Robin Hood Primary School

The education sector has a duty of care for children, young people or vulnerable adults to ensure that those under their care are protected from harm inside and outside of their institutions. Safeguarding is the term used to describe the measures put in place to ensure the protection of health, wellbeing and human rights of individuals under their care.

Robin Hood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at school. This means that we ensure that everyone working in our school has successfully completed the necessary clearances to enable them to work with children.

All safeguarding concerns are passed to members of staff who are specifically trained as “Designated Safeguarding Lead” (DSL) within the school. The Safeguarding Team at Robin Hood consists of the below members of staff:

  • Mrs Thornton (Deputy Headteacher) - Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Harris (Executive Headteacher) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Miss Hobson (Acting Head of School) Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Westwood (Acting Assitant Headteacher) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Steel (SENDCO) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Miss Purchon (Business Manager) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Miss Mills (EYFS Teacher, EYFS Lead and SEMH Lead) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Smith (Pastoral Manager) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Hey (Friendly Faces Manager) - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Mrs Laker (Assistant Headteacher) Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead - currently on maternity lead
  • Sarah Patel - Designated Safeguarding Governor

We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice.

If we have concerns about the safety of any children, we follow the procedures outlined in our Child Protection Policy. This policy explains how we respond to situations or issues when we think a child or children may not be safe. This also includes the procedures our school would follow if we felt a child or children were not safe at home.

All concerns are recorded and shared with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or a member of the Designated Safeguarding Team. A decision is then made on how we will deal with the concern. This would normally involve speaking to parents/carers or people from other agencies such as the Leeds Attendance Team or social care.

If we felt a child is at risk of harm, we would first, usually discuss this with parents. We then have a duty of care to report our concerns to the Leeds Education Safeguarding Team or the Front Door Safeguarding Hub ‘Duty and Advice’. Please see the useful ‘one minute guides’ which explain these important teams in more detail.

Advice for Children and Young People

If you don’t want to speak to someone in school, you have other choices. Phone 0800 1111 or click to access the ChildLine website.

If you are being bullied online, or if you have any concerns about things on the internet, speak to a trusted adult, call the police or click below.

Domestic Violence

Where there are cases of domestic abuse there are agreed protocols that must be followed. These are; If a police officer attends a domestic violence and abuse incident, details of all children who reside at the address, including name and D.O.B are obtained. The police officer will establish if a child was present or witnessed the incident. Details are recorded on an incident log / DASH assessment. Police then inform the Safeguarding Hub of incidents where child was present. This process intends to provide early information to schools where pupils have been present / witnessed an incident of domestic violence and abuse.
